Pastor’s letter, Oct., 2026
In John 16, Jesus reminds us that there is a time for suffering and for grieving over those we love. And, he goes on to say that suffering and grief are not the final purpose or destination.
Grief, after a loss of any kind, can feel very like fear. It reminds us of our human limitations and fragility. We often can feel directionless, especially as we mourn a loss. Yet, Jesus brings us back to the consideration of direction, aim, intention, and grounding in Joyful Truth that never can be taken away.
Our wholeness service on November 1, will take place at our beloved San Gabriel Presbyterian Church, outside in the columbarium. And in that place, where so many are laid to rest, we will again reflect on the question that Jesus asked, “What are you seeking?” “What is your aim and intention that will outlast even bodily death?”
I hope to see you there.
