Blessed Are the Pure of Heart

Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

I’m asking myself what this sixth beatitude means, to be pure of heart and to “see” God.  A key element of purity for me is to be transparent.  Another is to be honest, especially with myself.  My prayer is to “adopt a stance of least resistance to the Presence and Action of God in my life.*”  When I cultivate transparency and honesty in myself, I resist God less; I remove barriers to God’s presence and I can witness God’s miracles in my life.

I find seeking a pure heart to be difficult. One of the big paradoxes and challenges for me is to be honest, sincere, and earnest when I encounter people who seem neither honest, sincere, or earnest themselves.  In the February 26 meditation, we will reflect on becoming ‘pure of heart,’ and on ‘seeing God.’
