BELIEVING IN PEACE: THIRD IN-PERSON GATHERING of 2024: MARCH 24, 6:30 PM

Dear Friends,

We continue this season of the Wholeness Service with our focus on Pursuing Peace.  By the Holy Spirit, we remember not only that peace is available to us, but are reminded how Jesus teaches through example how to be in Him and in peace in even the most difficult circumstances we encounter.

Our minds and wills are habituated to thinking that having control, security, and affection are the way to peace.  But Jesus says (and shows) that taking up a cross, in whatever way we are called to, is the Way to peace that passes all that the world and our understanding can give.  Taking up your cross doesn’t mean giving up.  It means letting go in trust.

As usual, the March 24 Wholeness Service will include the beautiful music from the Taize Community in France, along with intercessory prayer, personal prayer and anointing, candle-lighting, silence, and communion. And, I’ll be sharing my reflections on “Believing in Peace.” We hope that you will be able to attend. If you are unable to join us physically, we will also be live-streaming the service and recording it as well to post on our YouTube channel afterwards.

Please be sure to pray for everyone involved in the service; those volunteers who plan and prepare, and those who attend. And pray that we all might believe in the peace that Jesus gives. I’ll share a prayer here that helps me in times when I am distraught and otherwise out of sorts.  It helps me get back to the way of Jesus; the way of the cross.  And I’ll pray it until I mean it.

It’s written by St. Ignatius and called the SUSCIPE* in Latin: (*meaning “take and receive.”)

Take Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, my entire will.

All I have and call my own, you have given all to me and to you, Lord, I return it.

Everything is yours; do with it what you will.  Give me only your love and your grace.

That is enough for me.”

The Wholeness Service is at San Gabriel Presbyterian Church on March 24, 2024 at 6:30 p.m.. We hope to see you there! All are welcome at our Lord’s table. Please spread the word and invite others to join us.

In the Great Love,

Rev. Vicki Joy McClure
