Next Zoom Gathering:
February 28, 2021 6:30 PM (Bridge opens: 6:15 PM)
Dear Friends of the Wholeness Service,
“As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience. … Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony” (Colossians 3:12, 14). Paul’s words are perfect for us and for this month of Valentine’s. Our existence as the Ecumenical Wholeness Service is part of our individual and collective answers to Jesus’ call to love others as He loves us.
I want to give a shout out to our virtual little choir that produced three beautiful Taize prayers last month. I know Bless the Lord was an arrow of love from the Spirit to my heart! I hope all of you will enjoy listening to these beautiful songs. And thank you to each of you in the virtual choir for your gifts of love, and to Ginger Mann for producing the songs.
This month we turn our thoughts towards another gift of the Holy Spirit: goodness. I will give testimony to my recent experience of hospitalization and rehab. On November 13, 2020 when my spine doctor advised me that I needed a serious spine surgery, the Holy Spirit comforted me with Psalm 27:13-14 “I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” (NRSV). I am excited to share with you the goodness of our Lord and the goodness of people who share love. For as 1John 4:16 says “God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God and God abides in them.” I hope you will join us for this encouraging message on goodness.
Please keep in your prayers all people fighting Covid: all medical teams, patients, and families, and especially our choir member Teresa Perotti as she continues to heal. And also pray for the people and animals suffering in this severe record-setting winter storm we are experiencing. May God comfort and provide for all of them.
Please keep in prayer all those associated with our service on February 28. Pray also for the outreach of our services to bring comfort to many. May you be prepared to:
- open your heart to the Holy Spirit through the prayers, songs, words, and silence;
- light candles to reflect our prayers;
- lift personal prayer requests during the intercessory prayer;
- observe 5 minutes of silence together;
- And of course, sing out with the musicians who have worked so hard to grace us in worship.
Our next worship service of the Georgetown Ecumenical Wholeness Service is on February 28 at 6:30pm. A link will be sent out on Friday, February 26. Please help us get the word out to your churches and organizations about the Ecumenical Wholeness Service. Each month new people join us in worship but there are so many more who need the kindness that happens when we all gather, be it in person or on Zoom.
I hope to see you on Zoom. Keep warm and keep hopeful. With the psalmist I say, Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! We look forward to seeing you on February 28!
Rev. Dr. Ann Hagmann
