Dear Friends of the Wholeness Service,
I write to welcome you to the new 2018-19 season of the Wholeness Services, and to invite you into prayer for the services and the work of the Holy Spirit among us. In recent years our services have grown in the number of participants and congregants to the point that we have transformed from the First Presbyterian Wholeness Service into the Georgetown Ecumenical Wholeness Service. As a result, we are moving to a larger sacred space. This is a giant leap of faith.
Our service needs to be covered in prayer, as it reflects our willingness to step out in faith, trusting that the Spirit is leading us. It was our clear discernment that God had blessed the service with more people and the move is essential to accommodate the growth of the service. Nonetheless, stepping out from underneath the umbrella of the First Presbyterian Church, we the leaders are now the safety net for the service. Without God that would be a scary thought!
Our faith in the Holy Spirit is strong, but you can see why your prayer is so important to our mission and efforts to provide a sacred space for the Spirit to be palpable and healing and wholeness can happen in our midst!! Last Spring, I could see our services creating a space of healing for many people for decades to come. I believe Jesus the Good Shepherd is with us and leading us. It was a glorious vision I pray the Spirit completes.
I ask that you also pray for new volunteers, as a larger service requires more servants. Those of us who do the services find it such an incredibly rewarding blessing.
Our service on September 23rd will kick off our season’s theme of Hospitality and the Healing Hearth. Rev. Dr. Martha Bessac will be bringing our message on “Welcoming,” assisted by liturgists Mary Meoli Johnson and Rev. Dr. Ann Hagmann. Ginger Mann will lead the music and the Little Choir. Additionally, we will be helped by the background team who set everything up and provide the candles, communion, and sound system. Please keep all the leadership in your prayers.
Please also pray for our move from the First Presbyterian Church to the First United Methodist Church, and for all the people whom the Spirit is calling to be present at the service. Pray for a move of the Spirit and the healing and wholeness of God among us!
In Christ’s love,
Rev Dr Ann Hagmann
