Once upon a time, the Georgetown Ecumenical Wholeness Service met in a basement.
That’s a true statement: about 30 years ago, a few ministers started a new mission at First Presbyterian Church, Georgetown, Texas. They began by praying together on the lower level of the church’s old, historic chapel. It was small, focused, and didn’t last long. Taizé prayer was not even known to them at the time, they simply followed a template from the Presbyterian Book of Common Worship. But the congregation grew large enough to need the old sanctuary a few years later.
Fast-forward three decades and we’ve brought today’s versio of this service across Central Texas, as far south as Round Rock and north to Salado. But we still remember, with gratitude, the place of our birth.
We’re delighted to return to FPC Georgetown this year. We think it’s fitting that we return on the Sunday just before Thanksgiving. We will worship once again in the historic chapel, where founder George Biggs hosted the service every month. We will hold an evening of pure Taizé Prayer, and meditate on the idea of “Seeking Joy.” Join us for a beautiful evening to start our Thanksgiving week.
