A series of ecumenical services in Salado and Georgetown
The Georgetown Ecumenical Wholeness Service (https://www.wholeness-service.org) will return with a series of candlelight prayer events starting early in the New Year, 2025. With partners both north and south of Georgetown, the first service of the year takes place at 6:30 pm on Sunday, January 12, 2025 in the iconic chapel of St. Joseph’s Epicopal Church, 881 N Main St, Salado, TX 76571 (https://www.stjosephsalado.org). This service is followed immediately by a similar event at 6:30 pm on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at San Gabriel Presbyterian Church, 5404 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas (https://sgpcgeorgetown.org).
Both events are a continuation of a season on the theme of “Courage.” With music and pastoral leadership under the direction of top local musicians and area ministers, the Wholeness Worship team will once again fill the worship spaces with scripture and song. Congregants will hear the Word, light intercessory candles, hear a brief meditation, and sing haunting chants from early Christianity, led by a chancel choir. On each date, come early (6:20) for a classical guitar prelude.
While worshipers enjoy the beauty, song, and silence, soloists Karen Strange (soprano), Sean Mann (baritone), Kayla Keele (mezzo-soprano), and Jayden Mann (baritone, youth cantor) will sing solos based on scripture. Cellist Beverly Harrison will join Ginger Mann and Sallia Bandy (flutes) on instrumental variations, supported by pianist Sean Mann and award winning composer and guitarist, Dr. Hugh Chandler. in Salado, English and Spanish will be sung and read by both Rev. Vicki Joy McClure and youth speaker and cantor Jayden Mann. In Georgetown, the meditation will be presented by Rev. Vicki Joy McClure.
Centered in Georgetown, Texas, the Wholeness Service offers hours of prayer which are Biblical, not doctrinal. This unique approach to worship allows them to partner with Christian churches of all denominations all over Central Texas. The philosophy is one practiced in the community of Taizé, France, which devotes itself to worldwide peace and reconciliation.
In January, the team will once again focus on praying as they were taught by their friends overseas. The candlelight intimacy of pure Taizé prayers will once again bring scripture, silence, and song to Central Texas. The services will continue in Georgetown every fourth Sunday through May, 2025.
