SUMMARY:What are you Seeking? Preview Service\, August 23\, 2026 (Morning)
DESCRIPTION:Announcing a preview of our 2026-27 season\, “What are you Seeking?” All worshipers\, regardless of church affiliation\, are welcome to join us at 10:30 am August 23\, 2026 at San Gabriel Presbyterian Church\, Georgetown\, Texas for a Service of Healing and Wholeness introduced by the Songs and Prayers of Taizé. While this will take place during the church’s Sunday morning worship hour\, it will be an ecumenical service\, with focus on scripture rather than doctrine. Like our regular services of wholeness\, intercessory candles will be available and private prayer with ministers will be offered. \n\n\n\nWhat are you seeking? These first words of Jesus in the Gospel of John are a question to two young people standing in the Jordan valley. Last year\, six young adults from six countries across four continents heard the same question. They answered: \n\n\n\nSilence. A direction. Joy. Meaning. A just world. Community. Peace.\n\n\n\nWhen Jesus asks His question\, the young people reply\, “Master\, where do you live?” Jesus tells them\, “Come and you will see.” (John 1:38-39) In his January 2026 letter\, Br. Matthew\, Prior of the Community of Taizé\, reflects on the words of the six volunteers\, and then responds with the Word of God. Our focus starts there\, with inspiration from Taizé’s annual letter for 2026\, “Que cherches-tu ?” Throughout our season\, we will bring these lessons home to Central Texas. \n\n\n\nPastors and lay speakers will prepare brief homilies and written words of inspiration throughout the year. Scripture will be selected for meditation based on each of the seasonal topics. We will worship using a combination of both the Service of Healing and Wholeness and Taizé Common Prayers on various dates. Service type and location will always be noted. \n\n\n\nCongregational songs\n\n\n\nTaizé Prayer chants are congregational\, made of short phrases that are repeated for ease of participation. Because Taizé represents over 100 countries worldwide\, the original language of each song varies; but they are all translated into multiple languages. In our services\, we usually sing Taizé songs in English. For an idea of how the songs sound in their original languages\, please enjoy this YouTube playlist. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Services\n\n\n\nOur meetings use two very special types of worship templates: the Protestant Service of Healing and Wholeness and Taizé Common Prayers. The Service of Healing and Wholeness\, found in many Protestant books of Common Worship\, is the root of our approach. Occasional evenings of pure Taizé prayer are offered throughout the year. The major difference between the two is that a Taizé Common Prayer service replaces a spoken homily with readings from the Bible. \n\n\n\nEven in the Services of Healing and Wholeness\, most congregational songs are from the Community of Taizé. In every service\, time is set aside for intercessory prayer\, candle lighting\, and private prayer with a minister. Many of our meetings offer open Communion\, with gluten-free elements available. All services are open to the public.

SUMMARY:Taizé Evening Prayers\, May 3\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:We’ve rescheduled our postponed January service Round Rock\, where we will pray in the intimate chapel of St. Philip’s United Methodist Church. Our Taizé Evening Prayer service on this night will focus on the topic\, “Pilgrims of Hope / Pilgrims of Peace.”\nThe Georgetown Ecumenical Wholeness Service is a candlelight\, contemplative prayer service that meets once per month. All services are open to the public. We pray together by using two very special types of worship templates: the Service of Healing and Wholeness and Taizé Common Prayers. We are led by a diverse community of area Christians\, and these services are open to all who would come. Songs are sung from the Community of Taizé. Opportunities are given for intercessory prayer and the lighting of candles. A time is set aside for private prayer and anointing with oil. Communion is offered to all in attendance\, with gluten-free elements available. About the meditations: Our subject for the coming season is “Hope Beyond All Hope.” It is based on the Taizé theme for 2025\, “Esperer au Dela de Toute Esperance\,” which considers perseverance and faith even in the worst of times. Brief homilies will be prepared by area pastors and lay speakers. Scripture will be selected for meditation based on each topic. Events this season: Services will continue to take place one Sunday per month at 6:30 pm\, with some noted exceptions (*) around holidays in the November / December months. Meetings take place on these dates and in these locations: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate\nTopic\nSite\n\n\n\n\nSeptember 28\nCourage to Hope\nSan Gabriel Presbyterian Church\n\n\nNovember 2 *\nListening to People of Hope / Celebration of Saints\nSan Gabriel Presbyterian Church\n\n\nNovember 23 *\nTaizé Evening Prayers\nSt. Joseph’s Episcopal Church (Salado)\n\n\nDecember 21 *\nStriving for Hope / Christmas by Candlelight\nSan Gabriel Presbyterian Church\n\n\nFebruary 22\nRemaining People of Hope\nSan Gabriel Presbyterian Church\n\n\nMarch 29\nEaster Hope\nSan Gabriel Presbyterian Church\n\n\nApril 26\nTaizé Evening Prayers\nSt. Joseph’s Episcopal Church (Salado)\n\n\nMay 3*\nTaizé Evening Prayers * Rescheduled from January 25\nSt. Philip’s United Methodist (Round Rock)\n\n\nMay 31\nPilgrims of Hope / Pilgrims of Peace\nSan Gabriel Presbyterian Church\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the songs: Taizé Prayer chants are congregational\, made of short phrases that are repeated for ease of participation.
