LAST IN-PERSON GATHERING of 2022-2023 Sunday, May 28, 6:30 p.m.!
San Gabriel Presbyterian Church, 5404 Williams Drive, Georgetown
Dear Friends of the Wholeness Service:
We have come to the very last Wholeness service of the 2022-23 season topic of the Beatitudes. Please come as we complete this year in hope for a more peaceful world. On May 28, Rev. Mary Powell will offer a meditation “Blessed Are They Who Suffer Hate for Me,” basedon the last two verses of the Beatitudes:
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Matthew 5:11-12.
Slander and hate seem pervasive in our world and local news. We may notice these sentiments in our very own families. Whether it be on a personal or an earth-size scale, it seems that we people do not hesitate to judge and condemn anyone of differing convictions, and sometimes act in violence against those falsely condemned.
In the case of Christians throughout the world, we read of Christians being imprisoned and executed for their faith. People who confess faith in Jesus are disowned and even considered dead by their families. According to Matthew 5:11-12, believers who live in faith of Jesus, despite all injustices, receive great welcome by the Lord of Hosts in heaven.
We are thankful to be meeting this year in the beautiful sanctuary of the San Gabriel Presbyterian Church located at 5404 Williams Drive in Georgetown. Participants are invited to mask or not, as they wish. The sanctuary will be arranged in a mindful social distancing arrangement. As always, our services will involve the beautiful music from the Taizé Community in France, along with intercessory prayer, personal prayer and anointing, candle-lighting, a meditation, communion, and a time of silence. We hope that you will be able to attend! If you are not able to attend in person, we will also live-stream the services on Facebook and YouTube and post a recorded copy to our YouTube channel [YouTube Postings.].
Please be in prayer about our services and the many people necessary to put them on. Would you like to serve as an usher? If interested, come join us! Please email us at volunteer@wholeness-service.org. Thank you!
We look forward to seeing you in the beautiful sanctuary of San Gabriel Presbyterian Church on MAY 28 at 6:30 p.m. for beautiful worship in song, scripture, and prayers. Spread the word and invite others!
Peace to All,
Rev. Mary Powell
