For most of us, the most difficult phrase in the Lord’s Prayer is vs. 12, “And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Forgiveness can seem impossible, and yet in Matthew 6, Jesus teaches us that God’s forgiveness is contingent upon whether we forgive others. So, how can we overcome our predicament? Our answer is within Christmas itself. The night Jesus was born, Love came down in Jesus and God dwelt among us. Knowing this heavenly love, so beautifully begun, we can seek relief from the yoke of guilt and from the prison of blame. Through the Love in Jesus, we can truly forgive and receive forgiveness.
