For All the Saints

blue brown and yellow abstract painting

Let’s face it, 2020 is rough.

By this time in the COVID-19 pandemic, “social distance” is a common household term. While it’s not even technically accurate, as it attempts to encourage physical and not exactly social distance, it brings with it some awful realities. We may not gather in large groups in a single place, and if we gather at all, we must do it with an unusual amount of restraint.

Unfortunately, that means that many of our friends, neighbors, and loved ones have passed away this year almost invisibly.

The Wholeness Community is sad to have lost its founding music director, Dr. George Biggs. Joining him in the Communion of the Saints are Stephen Minister Karen McKracken and composer and pianist Dr. Karol Ann Badgett. Like so many others, their remembrances are held privately by family and close friends, but closed to the public.

As a community, one of our primary missions is to support each other in the area of healing. So, this All Saints Day, we will present some small remembrances of those we have lost. During our Zoom Prayer Gathering, there will be a short tribute to the Saints we know and love, who have left us during this trying year.

But our volunteers are not the only ones who have passed on. Others among us have lost neighbors, friends, or family. Do you have a friend or loved one who passed away in 2020? Were you unable to join with others to say goodbye? If so, we would like to invite you to submit a remembrance as well, and let our next Zoom gathering remember with you.

If you would like for your memory to be included in our short video, please send it to inviteme@wholeness-service.org by Wednesday, October 26. We need this information from you:

  • Photo of the deceased – as large as possible
  • Name of the deceased
  • Birth / Death dates
  • Relation to you (uncle, aunt, friend, etc)
  • Optional: A sentence or two about them

If you would rather not have a public remembrance, then you can still share one privately in the Zoom Prayer Gathering on November 1, Just have your photo ready to present on screen during the sharing time, or simply think of a happy memory you would like to tell to the group.

Loss is never easy. We hope that this will help, at least in a small way. Our blessings to you, our friends and neighbors. Please know we are still here, God is with us, and we hope to see you soon.
